The Vision Group reported last August and disbanded in September after receiving valuable comments through the consultation/feedback process including at our Brook Green Day fair in 2010
Building on the success of the Vision Group’s inclusive approach, the Vision Implementation Group (VIG) whose task is to oversee the vision’s implementation was formed in October 2010.
Like the Vision Group YIG is comprised of volunteers. Robert Jennings, Gillon Campbell, Susannah Frieze and Jason Eker were appointed as the Friends representatives on VIG.
Other appointees include Hilda Denham, Gilia Slocock and Vicki Botwood who all serve on the BGA’s management committee and Robin Barttelot, John Higgins and Bill Flatau are the independent members of VIG. At its first meeting Robin Barttelot agreed to take on the role of Chairman.
2011 has already seen significant milestones achieved on the way to the Vision’s realisation:
- In March this year, following lobbying efforts by VIG, LBH+F located a suitable site off the Green for Serco’s maintenance and storage requirements. Once they movethis will free up prime space on the Green
- VIG engaged Halcrow a leading firm of civil engineers whose headquarters are at 43 Brook Green to review the Vision’s recommendations and expected costs and to prepare a visualisation of the Proposed Area Improvement plan
- In April. the Friends jointly with The Brook Green Association engaged the services of Jon Sheaff an independent playground designer (so avoiding the risk of equipment lead design). Jon’s plans for improving the Play Opportunity on Brook Green have been on display at the entrance to the Playground since June this year.
- Based on feedback received in relation to the detailed proposals for the Playground and the central Area, the Plans have been revised and are shown in the Proposed Area Improvement booklet.
- These revised proposals are to form the basis of a Planning Application to be submitted imminently
- We have engaged with LBH+F regarding the future of the tennis courts which will be an ongoing initiative for the rest of 2011.
The Friends organised a Bring & Buy sale at the Queens Head Pub on 18th June and are currently arranging Brook Green Day 2011 which is to be held on Saturday 10th September from noon till 6pm. Please see our Activities page for further details.
